Who are you?
I am a cartoonist who specializes in humorous illustration and single panel gag cartoons.  I have been cartooning professionally (i.e. being paid for my work) since 1998.  Click here to see my client list.

Why am I looking at your website?
www.davelondon.com is where I display my portfolio and answer your questions.  I like to think of my work as “cartoon art.”  I will custom design a cartoon or illustration for your business or personal needs, whether that be in a magazine, newspaper, on the web, in a book, on a T-shirt, for an advertisement, business cards, postcards, office presentations, retirement gifts, holiday gifts, or any number of infinite possibilities.

How do I buy a custom cartoon?
Contact me to discuss your cartoon needs.  I will quote you a price and explain my work process to you.

What is your work process?
In short, I will brainstorm with you to create ideas for your cartoon needs, provide you with sketches of the preliminary product for your approval (where you have the opportunity to comment and make changes), and then, once you give me the go-ahead, I begin work on the final product.

What do I get for all this trouble?
I deliver to you a professional cartoon in hard copy or electronic form (e.g., as a print ready 300 dpi jpeg).

What do you get for all this trouble?
I get the satisfaction of a job well done and a happy client.  And, of course, money.

How long does it take you to create a custom cartoon?
I can create a finished cartoon in a few weeks, a few days, or even one day if you need it immediately.  I will work within your timeframe to make sure you receive the artwork on a timely basis.

Ok, so I’m interested.  How much does a cartoon cost and how do I pay?
Click here to see my pricing page.  I accept cash, personal check, and credit cards.

How do I pay with a credit card?
I use PayPal.

But I don't have a PayPal account, so how can I pay you?
Even if you don't have a PayPal account, you can still pay me through PayPal's email invoicing tool.  You receive an email invoice with instructions on how to pay me online using a credit card or your bank account.  There is no additional cost to you.  And it is secure.  When you send a payment using PayPal, the recipient doesn't receive personal financial information like your credit card or bank account number.

When do I pay you?
I require a deposit of 50% before I begin work, unless otherwise agreed upon.  The remainder is due upon completion of the project.  Once you give me the go-ahead to start the final product, I can only make changes if you agree to pay an additional negotiated fee.

Why do you require a deposit of 50%?
Although rare, there are occasions when a client has decided they are no longer interested in the work after I have begun.  The 50% retainer assures me of your seriousness, and it prevents me from losing money if you decide you no longer want the product.

Why do I have to pay extra if I want to make changes after you begin the final product?
After you give me the go-ahead to begin the final product, any changes require me to start all over again, which requires extra time on my part.  This precludes me from working on other projects.

What if I'm not happy with the final product?
The process of providing you with sketches during the preliminary phase is designed to show you what the final product will look like so that you know what you are getting.  That is your opportunity to comment and make changes so that you are satisfied with the final cartoon.  If you truly are not satisfied with my work, call me and we can discuss options.  I want all my clients to be satisfied.

I really like your cartoons and want to buy one, but I have no money.
Sorry, I don’t work for free.  But call me to discuss your situation and I’m sure we can work something out.

How often can I use the cartoon?
Unless we've made other arrangements, you can use the image once, for its intended purpose.

Who owns the copyright?
Unless we’ve made other arrangements, I own the copyright in my artwork.  You receive a license to use the original cartoon for its intended purpose (which we agree on).

I’m a techie – what materials do you use?
2H pencils for sketching.  Sakura Pigma Micron markers or crowquill pens dipped in india ink for final inking.  Photoshop or Dr. Ph. Martin’s concentrated watercolors for coloring. Strathmore Bristol Board or illustration board for paper.  Really, it all depends on the specific project and what I feel like using at the time.  If you have a preference, just let me know.

I still have more questions.
